Financial Education Classes and Counseling
Montachusett Opportunity Council’s (MOC) Financial Education Classes and Counseling program offers financial education classes and counseling services to low-income individuals throughout the service area. Classes are offered to groups in partnership with other community-based organizations as well as on a one-to-one basis.
Financial education and counseling consists of skill building and activities in the areas of spending and saving, budgeting, credit building and repair, investing and asset building. Clients are counseled in making financial decisions that lead to the development of assets which help to move them toward long-term financial and life goals.

Homeownership Options for Massachusetts Elders (HOME)
MOC’s Homeownership Options for Massachusetts Elders (H.O.M.E) program provides financial counseling, foreclosure prevention, remainder of life financial planning, and consumer protection to homeowners age 60 and older in North Worcester County.

Individual Development Accounts
MOC’s Individual Development Account (IDA) program provides income eligible participants the opportunity to participate for more than 2 years in a financial literacy and assisted savings program. Successful program participants receive a 3:1 match for their savings, resulting in a total of $5,333 to purchase a home, pursue higher education or start a micro-business. IDA participants also receive individual and group case management services to assist them in preparing for and making their purchase.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
MOC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides free electronic tax filing assistance to low-income households utilizing volunteer tax preparers.
